Advantages of Gambling
Gambling:
Gambling refers to the staking or wagering of money or
other valuable things on a tentative outcome, the
positive or negative occurrence of which decides the
winning or losing of the money or material staked. In
case of winning there is an additional gain of the money
wagered. Usually the result of the gambling is made
known within a short period of time. The legal gambling
is known as gaming in the common parlance. Different
cultures treat gambling differently.
Advantages of Gambling:
Gambling can be treated as a form of recreation. The
recreational value of gambling is quit high as it
involves the swinging of emotions from exhilaration to
depression and again excitation and so on. A win in a
game will bring in a lot of ‘good’ feeling where as a
loss will throws one down into the gutters. The fall
makes one feel hurt and forces him or her to get up and
start again. It is a psychological substitute of real
life wins and loses. It increases a kind of achievement
motivation in the player. The other important advantage
is the monetary gain. A game can either turn one into a
pauper or super rich overnight. If one wins a wager it
will give additional monitory benefits to the gambler.
Easy money is a temptation to all. The legalized game
play outs bring income to the country’s treasury. There
are instances of state conducted games where the profit
is shared by the government. Gambling seems good for old
people who otherwise have no social commitments or
chances of socialization. They find casinos and gaming
hangouts a place of socialization. They go with a fixed
amount to play with say a $20 to 40 which will not prove
to be a great loss in case of not winning. Winning of a
game helps them to feel some excitement. More than the
monetary advantages it is the socialization that matters
for them. Those who are 65 and above find gambling
stimulates their brain as there is application of the
mind in card related
gambling games.
A rudimentary study conducted by the Yale University
proves this claim.
Moderation:
Gambling seems to be of help for the aged to overcome
loneliness, there are risks too of getting addicted to
it and becoming problem gamblers. The formula for
healthy and recreational gambling is moderation. Playing
with a fixed amount for the fun of it and leave the
place before getting intoxicated with the game may prove
to be advantageous.
